Canis is an excellent place to do work experience, I throroughly enjoyed the time I spent learning new skills and techniques from the professional and friendly groomers. I would happily recommend Canis to anyone and I am going to book my own dog in after seeing how attentive and how pleased the owners were with the final result of their freshly groomed dog. The dogs always looked amazing and smelt equally as good with their lovely range of shampoos and conditioners! Thank you for my experience, it was brilliant, and am looking foward to bringing my dog to you :)

Canis is like a second family to my miniature Yorkshie Terrier. I took her for her first grooming session only a week after I got her and we both have never looked back (or elsewhere) since! I also use the home boarding facility which is excellent. There are two Canis resident dogs and they are like sisters to my little Yorkie now. I also get a lot of great advice from Judy on various things from what’s the best food to how to deal with toilet training! Canis is definitely one of the best grooming and an all-round dog caring service. I cannot recommend Canis highly enough to anyone who is looking for a place where they can trust that their pets will be given an excellent treatment and a ‘home away from home’.

I could not be happier with the service our beloved Cockapoo Wilbur receives from Canis. When he has a trim he always comes back looking perfectly neat, smelling fresh and generally looking more beautiful than ever. I am always grateful for Judy’s knowledge which she is happy to share as being a first time dog owner I always have lots of questions and concerns. We regularly use the day care and home boarding service on offer which we find invaluable. I know Wilbur is looked after and he loves his time there as he simply cannot wait to get through the door! Judy and Nigel’s professionalism, friendliness and flexibility make the whole experience a pleasure. Thank you Canis, keep up the good work!

Had a fantastic day learning how to groom my cocker spaniel, he finished up looking amazing. Judy provided lots of hands on and tips and was very patient with me and my dog. Thank you for a wonderful learning experience worth every penny. I shall have no hesitation in sending my freinds and their dogs along to you.

I am so pleased with my dog’s cut, thank you so much. I am also thrilled that you weren’t phased that she can be a bit of an awkward customer and as a result she wasn’t at all stressed out as she has been after being groomed in the past. A big thank you from me and my pooch!

I spent a great day at Canis learning how to groom my miniature schnauzer, Chloe. Judy was an amazing teacher giving full and clear instructions and demonstrating each step along the way, on one side of Chloe. I then repeated that step on the other side while Judy watched and corrected me. Judy gave me lots of grooming tips as well as telling me exactly which pieces of equipment and shampoos I needed along with good websites or catalogues to economically buy them from. I now feel fully confident to pre groom, bathe, dry and finish grooming Chloe myself. Whilst there I noticed how the whole team worked, each grooming a dog. I was impressed by how much care was taken by everyone to get all the dogs looking exactly right. All the dogs were treated with patience, care and respect, the groomers seemed to know the dogs and their idiosyncrasies (as well as their owners preferences) really well. Nothing was rushed or hurried. Indeed each groomer spent an entire morning or afternoon with each dog. The trainee watched and was closely supervised when handling the dogs. At first I felt the charges for grooming and the training days were expensive (although I do not know how they compare with other groomers) but having witnessed and experienced for myself the care and time taken I now feel the Canis services are extremely good value for money.

We have a rescue dog who is a terrier cross and is extremely nervous. He is about two and a half or three and has grown up on a farm in rural Ireland so will have no experience of dog grooming. We wash him regularly but he quickly gets dirty and smelly again. We don’t want to tackle the many clumps of matted fur for fear of cutting his skin. He really needs professional grooming. We asked a neighbour for a recommendation of a groomer who would be good with nervous dogs and she recommended you. Would you be willing to take him on?

I recommend Canis to all dog owners I meet. My elderly dog (aged 16) was getting very weak on his back legs last Summer and consequently frequently fell down. Comments by well meaning friends said, ‘that’s it – there is nothing you can do now’. They obviously had not met Judy at Canis!. After just one session my dog was stronger, happier and more mobile . I have continued going back to Canis, to keep my dog as mobile as possible – if anyone can do this, Judy can. The modest fees, obvious devotion to helping my dog ,and thoughtful tips given to me on how to help my dog at home, shows a professional service that we are lucky to have in the county.

I have just returned home after spending a day learning to groom my Cocker Spaniel, Millie. I thoroughly enjoyed my day and all the staff at Canis were very relaxed, friendly & professional. If ever you wondered what happened to your dog when you leave them at Canis for their session – well rest assured, they are extremely well looked after and the girls truly are devoted to their job and really do care about the health & welfare of the the dogs left in their care.

I was able to have as much hands on as I liked but it was also mesmerising to watch the “lady from Spain” (apologies for not remembering her name) trim Millie with her scissors. She is gifted! I was able to learn loads of tips and tricks from watching her work. Judy was very thorough and patient and there was no “cutting corners” everything was well organised and carried out properly, not just for Millie, but for all the dogs who were there. I would recommend that if you are hesitating to attend for a day learning to groom your dog, then book it now, you really will enjoy your day and its worth every penny.

Judy gave me catalogues and pointed out apropriate tools to invest in which is great as its difficult to know which brands to choose. I will definately be getting some decent kit and trying to groom Millie. I am sure I will get better in time! I will also be returning to Canis to have Millie groomed in between my efforts as she looks a million dollars at the moment.

Thank you very much for such an informative and enjoyable day.

We brought our cocker puppy to be trimmed, he arrived as a fluffy scruffy dog, as a working dog we don’t need him too tidy but found the fluffy bits to hold thorns etc. when dropping off the pup I was asked exactly how I wanted him to look, and I left it to them.

I picked up an amazing looking puppy, he looks so much better, appears livelier than before. We are now going to take our older dog along for a makeover. We got a fantastic service for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend the services of Canis.

A very big thank you for turning the lovely Foxy into beautiful Foxy! She looks at least 6 years younger and was obviously not stressed out by her experience. Many thanks, a great job done, we will be back!

Chops , my springer had a massage with Judy a week ago. His pain seems to have improved so much and he enjoyed it too. He didn’t want it get up after as he was so relaxed! I highly recommend Judy for canine massage and for grooming, as Chops was bathed and groomed that day too and he looked handsome and smelt wonderful!

I cannot praise the staff at Canis enough. Having tried various groomers without success I took my large, shaggy labradoodle to Canis. Despite his boundless energy (!) and loud bark he emerges time after time with a beautiful cut exactly as I have asked for him to look, smelling lovely and not in the least bit traumatised.
    Thank you Canis

Boris, the extremely nervous rescue terrier, now looks and smells great. Thanks so much!
I didn’t think he’d let anyone trim him but you’ve done a great job. You’re so sensitive and thoughtful with him it has great results.

My rescue Border Collie Mac, was in dire need of some attention when we got him. We inherited a beautiful boy, but I don’t think he had been groomed in his 18 mths! 4 hours later, he came out of Canis a completely different dog, I nearly cried! He looked half the size and positively shone. His coat was shiny and smooth, just like a Collie should look. His coat had been badly matted underneath, but after much thinning out and all the other trimmings etc, he must have felt like a new dog as well as looking like one.
He shall definitely be returning on a regular basis, sooner rather than later…he’s rather fond of the lake……
Thank you girls, Mac is one happy rescue boy!
    Very best

I recently took the level 3 city and guilds fast track assessment at Canis. I was only there for a week and it went by so quickly but all the staff were friendly and welcoming. I would definitely recommend Canis to anyone with a dog because you can guarantee the dog will be well looked after by professionals (and dog lovers of course) and the results are amazing, attention to detail and the dogs welfare are paramount! I would also recommend the dog grooming training that is offered because I learned so much and Judy was able to answer all my questions and was really supportive which meant I passed the course. All the ladies at Canis are very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do and they really inspired me. So thank you to all at Canis!!
